What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

New Years Header_preview.jpegWhen the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, garden communicators will come forward with a garden full of resolutions for the new year. Recently, several members shared their resolutions on a Facebook post.

Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp has resolved to get more speaking engagements in 2018 and 2019 and she’s taking steps to get there. She hired someone to help create a “one-sheet” which tells all about her and she has hired help her market herself to different venues.

Teresa Speight, fellow blogger with the GWA Grows blog, says she doesn’t make resolutions. Instead, she makes commitments to herself.  She’s committed to focusing more on GWA engagement, using her megaphone to let others know we exist and why they should be joining us.

Denise Schreiber has resolved to grow more and fertilize on a regular basis. Does that mean fertilize her plants on a regular basis, or like many of us, fertilize our minds with new ideas and new information?

C.L. Fornari has resolved to grow more familiar with plants and have more fondness for plants. She plans to cultivate her many channels, including the Plantrama podcasts she hosts with Ellen Zachos, her radio show Gardenline on WXTK radio, her books, and her speaking opportunities.  Thanks to C.L. for the great graphic that accompanies this blog post.

Teresa Watkins says she’s inspired by some of the great garden communicators in GWA and plans to restart, rename and concentrate more on her blog, finish up two more books, and do more to promote GWA while she continues to educate on conservation and protecting our ecosystems. Whew! That’s a resolution list!

Anelle Ammons has resolved to stop being her her own worst enemy and stop getting in her own way with self-doubt. That’s a good resolution for many of us!

Mary-Kate Mackey has declared 2018 the year of her next book, a gardening book. She’ll be looking for passionate gardeners to interview.

Well, there is no better place to find passionate gardeners than GWA.

If you are reading this and want to be a part of a group of passionate garden communicators and share your love of gardening and plants, you should resolve to make 2018 the year you join GWA: The Association of Garden Communicators.

If you are already a member, let this be the year you resolve to get more involved by attending the annual conference in Chicago.

Happy New Year!

  1. Great inspirational actions from my fellow colleagues! Following Teresa’s example, I do too want to use my platforms to share more about the GWA in Puerto Rico. Specially share details with journalism students! Looking forward for Mary-Kate book! I had a great experience at her writing seminar in Buffalo. – Perla
